How to Get a Residence Certificate in Hua Hin

Official proof of the address you live at — usually simple, as long as your paperwork agrees with itself.

A residence certificate is a document that confirms the address where you live in Thailand. You may be asked for one when dealing with practical administration such as a Thai driving licence, vehicle registration, or certain banking and other address-sensitive procedures.

If you live in Hua Hin, this is normally handled through Prachuap Khiri Khan Immigration. The application itself is usually straightforward. The part worth checking before you go is whether your address is correctly recorded, and which supporting documents the Hua Hin office currently wants to see.

What is a residence certificate?

A short document confirming the Thai address of a foreign resident.

It exists for one purpose: to give another authority or organisation formal evidence of where you currently live. Immigration issues it on the basis of the address it can see in your paperwork, so the document is only as good as the record behind it.

It says nothing about your visa, your permission to stay or your long-term status in Thailand, and it is unrelated to Thai permanent residence.

One line to remember

Think of it as practical proof of your Thai address — not as a visa or a form of permanent residence.

When might you need one?

Four situations account for nearly every request.

01

Thai driving licence

The most common reason. A residence certificate is routinely used as the proof of address in a first application or a renewal.

02

Buying, selling or registering a vehicle

Transfer and registration paperwork for a car or motorbike often calls for formal evidence of where you live.

03

Banking

Some banks and some branches ask for formal proof of a Thai address. Others accept a lease or a letter. Ask first.

04

Other address-sensitive admin

Occasionally an insurer, utility, employer or authority wants an official document rather than your own paperwork.

Banks vary

Some banks or branches may request a residence certificate as address evidence, but it does not guarantee account approval. A residence certificate proves an address; it does not prove bank eligibility. Ask the bank what it will accept before obtaining a certificate purely for this purpose.

The same caution applies more widely. Always check what the organisation actually accepts before applying. A residence certificate is common, but it is not the only form of address evidence used in every situation.

The main office at Thap Tai, rather than the service point in town.

Local information

Prachuap Khiri Khan Immigration Office — Hua Hin

The main office for Hua Hin, out at Thap Tai. This is where residence certificates are handled, along with extensions and most other immigration work.

Address

439 Moo 1, Thap Tai Sub-district, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan 77110

Procedures usually handled locally

  • · Residence certificates and proof-of-address documents
  • · Extensions of stay and re-entry permits
  • · 90-day reporting and TM30 queries

Practical tips

  • · The Bluport service point offers a narrower range of services — treat the main office as the default for a certificate
  • · Bring your own copies; do not rely on being able to make them on site
  • · Phone or check locally before travelling if you are making a special trip

Hua Hin also has an immigration service point at Bluport, but it offers a more limited range of services. Residence certificates should currently be handled at the main immigration office rather than assuming the Bluport branch can issue one.

What to bring

Bring more than you think you need; copies are cheaper than a second trip.

Take these with you

  • Your original passport
  • A copy of the passport photo and details page
  • A copy of your current visa, where you hold one
  • A copy of your most recent entry stamp
  • A copy of your current extension of stay, if you have one
  • Evidence of your Thai address — typically the rental agreement or ownership documents
  • Your TM30 address-notification receipt, where the office asks for it
  • Recent passport photographs, if currently requested
  • The application form, completed at the office
  • A note of what the certificate is for, since the office may record the purpose

Requirements differ between immigration offices, so a list written for Bangkok or Chiang Mai is not a reliable guide to Hua Hin. If anything on your case is unusual — a recently changed address, a new lease, a pending extension — confirm what is needed before you travel out to Thap Tai.

Make sure your address evidence lines up

This is where most applications actually come unstuck.

Evidence that may be accepted

  • A signed rental agreement showing your name and the address
  • House registration or condominium ownership documents where the property is owned
  • The TM30 notification receipt for the address you are staying at
  • Any other evidence the Hua Hin office currently accepts for your situation

The real obstacle

The practical problem is often not the residence certificate itself. It is discovering that the address on one document does not match the address immigration has on record.

What does TM30 have to do with it?

Related, but not the same document.

TM30 is the notification of where a foreign national is staying, made by the owner or possessor of the property. A residence certificate is a separate document confirming an address, applied for by you. They are not the same thing.

They meet in practice because immigration may use existing address-registration information when confirming where you live, which is why the TM30 receipt is worth having with you.

How the process works

Six steps, most of which happen before you leave the house.

  1. 1

    Confirm why you need it

Ask the organisation whether a residence certificate is accepted, how recent it must be, whether it keeps the original, and whether one document covers more than one transaction.

  2. 2

    Check your address record

Make sure the address you want certified matches your lease, your TM30 notification and anything else immigration holds.

  3. 3

    Prepare the documents

Work through the checklist, sign the copies, and confirm the current requirements with the office rather than assuming last year's list still applies.

  4. 4

Go to the main immigration office

Use the main office at Thap Tai unless current information says the service is available elsewhere.

  5. 5

    Submit the application

An officer checks the form and your supporting address evidence, and will tell you if anything is missing.

  6. 6

    Follow the collection instructions

Processing arrangements vary. The officer will tell you when and how the certificate can be collected.

Processing time and collection arrangements are set locally and can change. The officer will tell you when and how the certificate can be collected.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

Local, changeable, and not worth guessing at.

Processing time, any fee and whether a faster local option exists are set at office level and have changed more than once in recent years. We would rather leave this blank than publish a figure we cannot currently stand behind for Hua Hin.

How recent does it need to be?

The organisation receiving the certificate may require it to have been issued recently. Check its requirements before applying, particularly if you intend to use the certificate later rather than immediately.

One certificate or more than one?

Different authorities and separate transactions may each want their own original.

Someone dealing with both a driving-licence application and a vehicle transaction should not assume that one original can be reused for both. Some organisations keep what you hand over.

Before applying, ask each organisation whether it keeps the original and whether one certificate can be used for more than one purpose. It can save you a second trip to immigration.

What usually causes an unnecessary second trip?

Risks worth checking, not things that happen to everyone.

The address does not match

The lease, the TM30 receipt and the immigration record describe the same place in three slightly different ways.

Wrong office

The Bluport service point handles a narrower range of work than the main office at Thap Tai.

Missing copies or photos

Local document requirements were not checked before setting off, and there is no copier queue you want to join.

The receiving organisation wants something else

A bank branch or transport office may have its own expectations about form, wording or recency.

Obtained too early

The certificate was collected weeks before it was needed, and the organisation wants recent proof.

What are you arranging next?

The certificate is rarely the goal. It is usually one step inside a larger task.

A residence certificate is one of several pieces of local administration that may become relevant once your Thai address is established — usually alongside banking, a local number and address reporting rather than before them.

Sources checked

  • · Immigration Bureau, Thailand
  • · Prachuap Khiri Khan Immigration Office
  • · Official TM30 address-notification system
  • · Department of Land Transport

Checked August 2026. The purpose of the document, the main office location in Thap Tai and the narrower service range at the Bluport point are consistent across current sources. Fees, processing time, photograph requirements and opening hours are set locally, are not published centrally in a form we could verify, and are therefore left open rather than stated as fact.
