Within a compact area around Hua Hin and Cha-Am you can choose between Thailand's historic first golf course, relaxed local courses, scenic resort layouts and championship courses that have hosted international professional tournaments.

1. Hua Hin is where Thai golf history began
Royal Hua Hin Golf Course holds an important place in Thailand's golfing history.
Construction of the first nine holes began in 1919 and they opened in the early 1920s. The course was formally inaugurated in 1924 during the reign of King Rama VI, with the second nine completed later in the decade. It became Thailand's first standard golf course.
The course was designed with the involvement of A.O. Robin, a railway engineer, which explains its remarkable location directly beside Hua Hin's historic railway station.
Unlike Hua Hin's modern resort courses, it follows the natural landscape. Mature trees, relatively narrow fairways, elevated greens and old-fashioned design give it a very different feel. Playing here is not simply about the scorecard — it is a chance to play golf where the sport established itself in Thailand.

2. You can play where the professionals played
Black Mountain sits at the opposite end of the spectrum.
Black Mountain opened in 2007 and rapidly developed an international reputation. The club now offers 27 holes of championship golf — and professional golf has actually been played here.
Black Mountain hosted Asian Tour events, the 2011 Royal Trophy, the King's Cup and the True Thailand Classic in both 2015 and 2016. The True Thailand Classic was co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.

7. The Hua Hin Golf Festival can change the economics
Golf prices are seasonal, which matters if you live here rather than visit for a week.
During the 2026 Hua Hin Golf Festival period, Pineapple Valley has offered a ฿2,200 green fee, while promotional rates at Palm Hills, Lake View, Royal Hua Hin, Majestic Creek and Springfield have been available around ฿1,000–฿1,600.
For a resident who can choose when to play, this is a major advantage: you do not always have to pay tourist high-season rates.
8. When is the best time to play?
Golf runs all year, but the experience changes considerably with the season.
November to February
Best overall weather
Lower humidity, less extreme heat, relatively dry — but peak season, so rates and demand are higher.
Best for: Visitors and anyone prioritising ideal conditions.
March to May
Hot season
Perfectly playable, but midday heat becomes intense.
Best for: Tee off as early as possible.
June to October
Wetter, greener, often cheaper
Rain is more likely, particularly later in the day, but rarely continuous. Courses are beautifully green.
Best for: Residents and value-conscious golfers.
9. Should you walk or take a cart?
Carts are not compulsory at every Hua Hin course.
Palm Hills, Royal Hua Hin, Pineapple Valley, Majestic Creek, Lake View and Sea Pines currently allow optional carts under their published conditions. Black Mountain is different: its current published rate specifies a compulsory cart.
Walking can be pleasant during the cooler months. In April heat at 13:00, a cart can suddenly feel like the best ฿700 you have spent all week.
10. Do you need to bring golf clubs to Hua Hin?
Not initially — several courses offer rental sets.
